Stillwater Promoter’s Trial Postponed
A Minnesota judge granted a second continuance in the trial of a promoter accused of theft and writing bad checks related to the now-defunct Lumberjack Days festival in Stillwater.
David Eckberg reportedly told the judge he is thinking about hiring a new defense attorney.
Judge Susan Miles rescheduled trial for March 24 but told Eckberg he’d better be ready by then, according to the Pioneer Press.
Eckberg, owner of St. Croix Events Inc., was charged in November 2012 with 10 felony counts of theft and issuing bad checks to distributors and partners for the 2011 Lumberjack Days totaling more than $54,000.
The trial was originally scheduled to begin in October until the judge denied the defense’s motion to dismiss, the paper said.
