Nothing Can Stop Miley Cyrus’ Bangerz Tour
Earlier this week NineMSN’s The Fix reported that since Cyrus’ tour kicked off Feb. 14 in Vancouver, her management has been inundated with complaints saying the “sexually explicit” show had gone “too far.” Most of the complainers were reportedly parents who were requesting “the entire tour to be axed.”
The Australian entertainment site said it talked to a source that claimed Cyrus’ team was taking the complaints seriously because arenas across the U.S. were threatening “to pull out of the show.” Her management, record label exec and tour staff had supposedly met for an “emergency meeting” and an “emergency plan” was reportedly in the works to tone down the show.
Well, don’t you know that Miley is all grown up now and you can’t tell her what to do? If she wants to wear a leotard with cannabis leaves on it, shake her booty, stick her tongue out, grab her crotch, get too-close-for-comfort with a Bill Clinton impersonator, and dance inappropriately with stuffed bears – well, she’s going to do it! Like she says in “We Can’t Stop,” the lead single from 2013’s Bangerz, “This is our house/This is our rules/And we can’t stop/And we won’t stop.”
Cyrus addressed the so-called controversy over her too-sexy show with a few tweets Thursday.
“You can’t say I didn’t warn you. Now sit back relax & enjoy the show,” Cyrus tweeted Feb. 20, along with a photo from the tour featuring the singer showing off her derrière by walking away from the camera, wearing a thong leotard.
Cyrus is right – she did warn attendees. The stage set up in the photo shows a parental advisory warning usually seen on the cover of explicit CDs.
She also tweeted, “Save your complaints for the McDonalds drive thru when they forget the ‘fries with that.’”
And tour promoter Live Nation put out a statement to set the record straight.
“There is no truth whatsoever to any stories or rumors of venues pulling out of the Bangerz Tour,” Live Nation told E! News. “Miley has created a tour that’s big, spectacular, entertaining and everything you would expect from Miley Cyrus. Reviews have been amazing and most important, fans are loving the show and having a great time.”
Cyrus will keep doing her thing with dates booked through June. Next stop is Saturday’s show at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
