BLM Adds Burning Man Staff

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management is adding a full-time staff position specifically to oversee the annual Burning Man festival held at Nevada’s Black Rock Desert.

BLM officials say the position is needed to stay on top of contracts and coordinate law enforcement, safety and other details for the weeklong event going into Labor Day weekend.

The festival, which drew nearly 70,000 people last year, has gotten too big and too time-consuming for BLM workers to monitor along with their regular duties.
