Pixies Offer Fans New Gigs & A Video
Francis talked to Pollstar ahead of EP-2’s January release, explaining that the act wrote “Greens and Blues” with the live show in mind.
“‘Gigantic’ had become very much a big closer number, either at the end of the set or even sometimes the last song in the encore. … I was trying to write a song that could be that type of song like ‘Gigantic’ when I did ‘Greens and Blues.’ It couldn’t be, for example, too fast or two slow. It had to be a nice kind of medium tempo, it needed to kind of have a big chorus. The chord structure of the verses is very similar to the chord structure of the chorus. It’s not exactly the same, but it’s very similar.”
To set the scene for the video, here’s the band’s description: “On a lonely abandon planet one man remains, left behind to wander the desolate landscape marking his time and documenting the history of a once great civilization on its corroding walls and on his decaying mind, waiting for ‘them’ to return…”
Josh Frank – who co-authored “Fool The World, the Oral History of the Band Called Pixies” – wrote and directed the video. Mel Rodriguez (“Panic Room,” “Little Miss Sunshine,” “The New Normal”) stars as the planet’s remaining man.
