Didn’t You Want A Hugh Laurie Tour?
With Laurie on piano, guitar and vocals, his second blues LP includes his take on songs ranging from the classic 1914 tune “Saint Louis Blues” by W.C. Handy to tracks like “Wild Honey,” which Dr. John recorded for 1978’s City Lights.
In addition to being backed by The Copper Bottom Band, Laurie enlisted the help of guest vocalists Gaby Moreno, Jean McClain and Taj Mahal. Didn’t It Rain was produced by Joe Henry Allen (Allen Toussaint, Bonnie Raitt, Billy Bragg) who also worked on Laurie’s debut, 2011’s Let Them Talk.
“I have resolved to forge on, deeper into the forest of American music that has enchanted me since I was a small boy,” Laurie says. “And the further I go, the more bewitched I become – both by the songs and by the people I have been lucky enough to play them with.”
