Tickets for Teatro alla Scala, to give the famous old opera house its full name, will now be handled by Ticketone, the Italian wing of Eventim’s vast European business.

La Scala sells about 220,000 tickets per year.

The inventory will be handled by Eventim’s Inhouse system, specially designed to meet the needs of opera houses, concert halls and theatres.

Eventim services other world-famous classical music and opera venues including Switzerland’s Zurich Opera House, and Germany’s Berlin State Opera House, the same city’s Deutsche Opera and the Munich State Opera House.

Eventim senior vice president of legal and business development Rainer Appel says the company is pursuing a long-term growth strategy in Italy, where it recently became the leading provider of cinema ticketing software by buying 60 percent of former market-leader CREA Informatica.

“We see Italy as a market with excellent growth prospects that we will continue to tap in the years ahead,” Appel explained. “Our software solutions will help make the ticketing for La Scala Milan more efficient than ever and enable its many national and international visitors to buy tickets as simply as possible.”

Inaugurated in 1778, the Teatro alla Scala is one of the world’s most renowned opera houses and hosted the premières of many famous works, including Giuseppe Verdi’s “Nabucco” and “Falstaff,” and Giacomo Puccini’s “Madame Butterfly” and “Turandot.”
