Industry Noize: $42 Million Arena Wish List

Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, N.C., has been open less than nine years, but its primary tenant – the NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats – and local tourism officials have submitted a wish list of improvements totaling nearly $42 million.

The list includes site improvements, moving the ticket office, renovating restaurants and suite improvements, according to the Charlotte Observer.

The team and the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority conducted the review as a provision of the 25-year lease between the city and the Bobcats.

The team and the CRVA report the arena needs $34.1 million in improvements over the next four years and $7.8 million of work over the next five years.

Deputy City Manager Ron Kimble said there likely will be negotiations to determine what improvements are needed.

The lease calls for the city to make necessary improvements to the building to keep it up to date and ensure the team can “maintain economic competitiveness and revenue potential.”

The request comes less than a year after the city decided to provide more than $87 million for improvements at Bank of America Stadium, home of the NFL’s Carolina Panthers.
