Industry Noize: MSG, DeNiro Team Up

Madison Square Garden Co. has acquired a 50 percent stake in Tribeca Enterprises, the film company co-founded by actor Robert De Niro and presenter of the Tribeca Film Festival.

The deal combines two major New York showbiz players and gives MSG Co. entry into the film business while providing Tribeca Enterprises with MSG’s marketing power.

Tribeca Enterprises is valued at $45 million with the deal, which comes just weeks before the 13th annual Tribeca Film Festival begins April 16.

The $1 billion in improvements include luxury suites, premium seating and two bridges above the seating bowl.

Co-founder Jane Rosenthal will remain CEO of the company.

“You do get to a point when you’re a start-up, in essence, when you can’t do it alone,” Rosenthal told the New York Times.

The festival opens with a screening and concert at the MSG-owned Beacon Theatre for “Time Is Illmatic,” a documentary about the rapper Nas.
