McCartney Going Back To Japan

Only six months after a sold-out Japan tour, Paul McCartney is returning to play three dates on his current Out There jaunt.

McCartney will perform May 17-18 at the Tokyo National Stadium, which was the original main venue for the 1964 Summer Olympics, and May 24 at the Yanmar Stadium in Osaka.

The Tokyo National Stadium gigs will be part of a big sendoff series of events for the stadium since it is being replaced by an even bigger structure for the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

There is no speculation as to why McCartney is returning to Japan so quickly after his last visit, but it should be noted that those shows were reported to be the biggest money-makers on his 2013 tour.

The last time he played Japan apart from the November gigs was 2002. Universal Music is already capitalizing on the news by re-releasing McCartney’s latest album, New, with a bonus DVD (region 2 format) featuring footage from his November shows at Tokyo Dome, two short documentaries, and several music videos.
