Made In Los Angeles?

Sources reportedly close to the matter told the Los Angeles Times the fest could be announced this month and is targeted for Grand Park and other adjacent areas downtown at the end of August.

But just because the Live Nation-produced fest might head west doesn’t mean Made In America is abandoning Philadelphia, where it’s taken place the past two years.

The events would be staged the same weekend, with the L.A. leg aiming for a 50,000-capacity festival that would require street closures in the area for up to 10 days, the Times noted.

While a spokesman for the mayor’s office told the paper there have been discussions about a possible event, it seems there are also some opponents to the idea.

Councilman Jose Huizar, who represents the downtown area, says he wasn’t informed of the fest and has introduced a motion to stop issuing permits until he’s briefed.

“When you’re talking about a proposed event of this magnitude, with 50,000 (people) expected, multiple-day street closures, beer and for-profit ticket sales at a public park, it is imperative that we have an open, inclusive dialogue in ensuring it’s a good fit for the neighborhood and if it is, that concerns are mitigated well in advance,” Huizar said in a statement to KPCC.

A spokesperson for Live Nation did not respond to a request for comment at press time.
