Industry Noize: AEG Taps Borberly For Zhongsheng

AEG Facilities announced the appointment of Lajos Borbely as the new general manager of the Zhongsheng Center in Dalian, China.

He will be responsible for the arena’s business operations, creating new events, and developing “various different revenue opportunities” for the Center, according to an announcement.

The Center is a new venue operated by AEG Facilities and Dalian Anschutz Arena Management Company.

It opened Oct. 2 when Justin Bieber played there. Dalian is in northeastern China.

Borbely has experience in sales and operations at other venues and has worked extensively in the advertising, conference and live entertainment fields. He can prepare sponsorship deals, develop sales strategies and supervise events.

He started in Europe working for an investment bank prior to establishing his own event organizing consultancy.

For the last seven years he was managing director of BudapestArena in Hungary. John Cappo, president and CEO of AEG China, said Borbely was chosen because “the entertainment market in Central Europe several years ago is similar to that of Dalian today.”

Borbely says he is “a huge live music fan and a bit unique because of my entrepreneur investment banking background.”

Among the events so far at the Zhongsheng Center were Disney on Ice and concerts by Andy Lau and Cai Qin.
