PrimaveraPro Hits Fashionable District

Spain’s annual Primaverapro conference is leaving Barcelona’s Hotel Zero for the city’s fashionable El Born district.

The next edition May 28-30 will be at the Convent de Sant Agustí, which was built in 1349 and is now a community centre surrounded by various cafes, bars, restaurants and stylish (and pricey) boutiques.

The hotel overlooks the a peaceful square just 50 meters from the vibrant street of Las Ramblas.

“The Hotel Zero has served us well as a venue for Pro. However, we wanted to move the event into the centre of Barcelona because the city’s cultural fabric is very important for Primavera as a whole,” a conference spokesman explained.

The speakers so far announced for this year include Jack Shankly from Domino Records, Rodaidh McDonald, engineer at XL Recordings, Will Tompsett and Carrie Tolles from 4AD, Chris Goss from Hospital Records, Bob Stanley, writer, journalist and founding member of Saint Etienne, and singer Sandie Shaw, who’s also a director of the Featured Artists’ Coalition.

The Primavera Sound festival that runs in parallel to the conference in the nearby Parc del Forum has Pixies, Laurent Garnier, Nine Inch Nails, Mogwai, The National, Dr. John and the Nite Trippers, and SBTRKT.
