A Healthy Cousin Sleaze

A former police officer pleaded guilty to fraud after being accused of playing onstage with his band despite claiming disability for an arm injury.

Christopher Inserra, lead singer of metal band Cousin Sleaze, was arrested last year on charges accusing him of fraudulently collecting more than $30,000 in disability payments in the nearly two years he was out sick from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department.

Inserra returned to work March 2012; he resigned April 21, the day before he pleaded guilty. Inserra claimed he suffered a “tremendous amount of pain” when he hurt his arm helping an injured Port Authority employee to a medical facility.

The department agreed to give him time off with full pay. He also filed claims with an insurance policy that resulted in two payments totaling $30,486.

However, Cousin Sleaze hit the road on its “Miles of Mayhem” tour in 2011 and there is video footage of Inserra pumping his fist onstage in Athens, Cocoa Beach and elsewhere. Inserra faces up to 14 months in prison.
