Only So Many Artists
Is it possible there are too many award shows coming up? Case in point: the Billboard Music Awards and the inaugural IHeartRadio Music Awards are sharing early May and appear to be divvying up the artist invites.
IHeartRadio’s event is at Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles May 1. Billboard’s award show takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas May 18.
IHeartRadio has commitments from Blake Shelton, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell, Pitbull, and Shakira, among others.
Billboard’s award show has Luke Bryan, Imagine Dragons, John Legend, OneRepublic, and Jason Derulo. There is very little if any crossover – with the exception of Bryan, who is lined up to perform in Los Angeles.
Other iHeartRadio guests are Ariana Grande, Arcade Fire, Lady Gaga, Lorde, and Katy Perry. Imagine Dragons are to make an appearance at Shrine Auditorium but it appears they will not perform.
The event will include performances from the city’s Roxy and Hotel Café, among others.
