Steve Perry Reemerges
Steve Perry joined the Eels Sunday night in Saint Paul, Minn., where the former Journey-man performed renditions of “Open Arms” and “Lovin’ Touchin,’ Squeezin.’”
So far there’s been no word as to why the 65-year-old vocalist surprised the crowd by taking the stage during the Eels second encore at the Fitzgerald Theater. The Star Tribune noted that Perry’s trademark high voice “is not as high as it used to be – nor as high as that of current Journey singer Arnel Pineda.”
The newspaper also said Perry “hadn’t performed in public since 1996.” However, baseball fans will remember the singer appearing at San Francisco’s AT&T Park during the 2010 and 2012 World Series, leading the crowd as it sang along to Journey songs played over the house PA system between innings.
