Max Cooperstein Dies

Max Cooperstein, one of the names from the early days of rock and roll, has died.

Pollstar had little information at press time; this item is posted as his funeral was in progress at the request of his wife, Bonnie.

Cooperstein, who ran Max C Talent Group at the time of his passing, worked in the recording industry for 50 years and was associated with names like Leonard Chess, Wolfman Jack, The Hound Dog, Alan Freed, Etta James and Mose Allison.

He was the rep for the East at Chess Records when he convinced Leonard Chess to send Chuck Berry to Philadelphia to do a pilot show with a young DJ named Dick Clark called “American Bandstand.”

Cooperstein spent many years booking acts for jazz festivals around the world and at the time of his death helped book performers like Frankye KellyGiacomo Gates and Charles Wilson.
