Sweden Gets Second Conference

It will be called Way Out West Music Conference, which will run Aug. 8-9 alongside Way Out Festival and organized by Luger, a wholly owned LN subsidiary since 2008.

“We will offer possibilities for global networking and opportunities to both present and take part in discussions on the future of the music industry,” said Patrick Fredriksson, who’s running the project for Luger with Peter Björklund. “Since music, facilities and communications already are in place, it felt natural to introduce a new meeting place that can bring people in the music industry together,” he explained.

So far, Way Out West Conference has confirmed Sub Pop co-founder Jonathan Poneman, Coachella talent buyer Donna Busch and top UK festival promoter Melvin Benn.

At the end of April, Hamburg-based FKP announced it will be starting a conference in Norrköping during its Bravalla Festival June 26-28.

Last year the first edition of Bravalla gave FKP the Swedish record for best-attended festival by attracting 51,590 for one of its three days.

At the end of May, Live Nation topped that when its new Stockholm Fields headlined by Metallica pulled 51,863 fans to a city park at Ladugårdsgärdet.

This year’s Way Out West has Queens Of The Stone Age, The National, and Röyksopp. Bravalla has Iron Maiden, Kings Of Leon, and Kanye West.
