Superfest Sets $3.4 Million Record

City tourism officials say Baton Rouge hotels took in a record $3.4 million during last month’s Bayou Country Superfest.

Visit Baton Rouge tells WBRZ-TV  that hotel receipts showed visitors spent $1.23 million May 23, $1.26 million on May 24, and $914,000 May 25 during the three-day country music festival.

Organizers extended the festival, held over the Memorial Day holiday, by an extra day for 2014 after they secured an appearance by George Strait as part of his “Cowboy Rides Away” farewell tour.

Visit Baton Rouge president and CEO Paul Arrigo says the festival and recently completed Miss USA Pageant has put the city on the world stage. And there’s more to come. Arrigo says the city is set to welcome thousands beginning Thursday for a youth soccer championship event.
