Employees of Lexington Avenue Brewery contacted the health department after the June 22 concert featuring Bask, Generation of Vipers, and Young And In The Way.

Fans of the latter band posted photos on Instagram showing a red liquid on the stage and photos of themselves splattered with a “dried brown substance,” according to the Citizen-Times.

One fan reportedly commented, “Great shot. Venue was not happy. Haha.”

Brewery co-owner Mike Healy told the paper that almost four dozen employees were out of work while a massive cleaning was under way.

“They have kids, groceries and bills, and now they are out of work for several days,” Healy said. “I will do everything that I can to compensate them.”

Healy would not discuss any possible legal action against the band or Asheville’s Empire Tattoo parlor, which promoted the show.

“There was nothing in their rider about what was going to occur,” Healy added. “After the incident, they took all their equipment and wiped it down and left the place a disaster zone. Our staff was there until 2 or 3 in the morning cleaning and the next day.”

The Servepro company was contracted for the cleanup.

“There was so much [blood spilled] that we might have to rip out the stage,” Healy said. “It’s a very dire situation.” Health officials said there were no food safety issues because the show was not close to the kitchen, and pig’s blood does not present any risk to fans that may have gotten splashed.
