Bravalla Re-Takes Swedish Record

The second edition of Sweden’s Bravalla Festival regained the title for being the country’s biggest, less than a month after temporarily losing it to Live Nation’s Stockholm Fields.

German-based festival promoter Folkert Koopmans didn’t have the final numbers July 2, but 56,295 advance tickets was enough to beat the 51,863 achieved by the Stockholm event May 30.

“The final number will be a little more than the advanced figure, but I don’t yet know the daily ticket sales,” Koopmans explained.

Last year the first Bravalla did 51,590 and held the record until it was beaten by last month’s Stockholm Fields.

Records aside, the June 26-28 outdoor at Norrköping wasn’t all plain sailing for the German promoter.

A temporary glitch in the cashless payment system on the first day meant that about one fan in 20 didn’t have any credits on its wristband.

On the second day, a flash of lightning hit a camp site and six people required hospitalization.

“The cashless system wasn’t so much of a problem as we were soon able to fix that, and the feedback suggests that on the whole people much preferred the system,” Koopmans told Pollstar.

“As for the lightning, I couldn’t understand how it missed the metal stage structures and towers on the site and struck the earth on a camping site.

“I was pleased our emergency plan worked well and there were paramedics at the scene within 90 seconds,” he said.
