Industy Noize: Majestic Theatre Owners Buy Columbia Venues

The owners of the Majestic Theatre in Madison, Wis., have bought two more venues in Columbia, Mo., along with an equity stake in the latter city’s blues festival.

Matt Gerding and Scott Leslie, owners of the 600-capacity Majestic, are taking over the 850-capacity Blue Note and the 300-capacity Mojo’s along with a stake in the Roots N Blues N BBQ Festival.

The Blue Note recently hosted Randy Houser, Tech N9ne and Mojo’s, and has been a staple of the college town.

“I’ve been doing this for 35 years,” Blue Note owner Richard King said in a statement. “It’s been a great run, and business has been wonderful, but I think these gentlemen are fully prepared to take it to another level.”

The Blue Note is is expected to be renovated with new sound and lighting, new flooring and improved green rooms.

The transition is expected to take place Oct. 31 but the room will be immediately booked by Majestic Live – the talent buying version of Gerding and Leslie.
