Super Sonic Downsized

Super Sonic, the Korean version of Japan’s long-running rock festival Summer Sonic, has been reduced from two days to one.

Originally planned for Aug. 14-15 at Olympic Park in Seoul, the festival will now take place at the Auxiliary Stadium in the Jamsil Sports Complex Aug. 14 only.

Festival organizer 9ENT told the Korea Herald, “We moved the festival’s location … to acquire a larger stage and space for more fans. With the change in venue, the event will take place for one day only.”

The newspaper says that industry insiders think the reason for the changes has something to do with structural changes that recently took place within the organizing body, though it won’t say what those changes entailed. In any case, though the lineup was announced some months ago, tickets didn’t go on sale until the venue and date changes were announced.

The headliners for the festival are Queen and Adam Lambert. Japan’s Summer Sonic takes place Aug. 16-17.
