Off Off Duty

Miami Beach Police Chief Dan Oates has prohibited his officers from taking lucrative off-duty at more than a dozen nightclubs in the city. The city is investigating whether a police sergeant was drunk wile working at a South Beach club.

The Miami Herald says it’s at least the fourth instance of a Miami Beach police officer being accused of this in the past three years.

Oates’ policy, which takes effect Aug. 1, was criticized by union leaders in the city who said it will mean more on-duty police officers will be responding to calls from nightclubs.
