Longitude On The Right Lines
MCD’s Irish Longitude Festival is moving on the right lines as the second edition exceeded crowd expectations at Dublin’s Marley Park July 18-20.
Zach Desmond, Irish promoter Denis Desmond’s son, was pleased that two of the days hit his 15,000 per day target and the middle one sold out its 20,000-capacity.
“We were looking for 15,000 per day and next year we’ll aim for 20,000 every day,” he said, pointing out that the goal is to grow the festival slowly.
The lineup on this year’s sellout Saturday included Disclosure, Haim, Chvrches, and The 1975.
Although the festival is similar in name to Festival Republic’s Latitude Festival, which has his father as a major shareholder, Desmond says that’s where the similarity end as Longitude isn’t as “left field.”
The other acts on the Marley Park bill included Massive Attack, Bastille, Rudimental, Afghan Whigs, and Bombay Bicycle Club.
