Fan Body Found In Landfill

The death of Cory Barron of Fremont, Ohio, is being investigated as a homicide though Cleveland police Commander James Chura said that the 22-year-old could have fallen through a 5- to 6-story garbage chute positioned at the top of Prog, where the concert took place, into a large waste container. He was last seen leaving a section of the stadium where he had been sitting with friends and family and was believed to be heading to another section, but never arrived.

A cause of death has not be determined. Lorain County Medical Examiner Stephen Evans performed an autopsy July 23, but said toxicology tests could take weeks.

But it appears fingers are starting to be pointed. The executive director of Gateway Economic Development Corp., Todd Greathouse, told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that Live Nation was in charge of security for the Aldean concert. Live Nation declined to speak about security measures, citing the ongoing investigation.

Live Nation’s Jacqueline Peterson told the paper that “those questions would go through the building manager.” The Cleveland Indians, which play home games at Progressive Field, declined to discuss how Barron may have fallen into a dumpster, as did a rep for the company that hauls trash from the stadium.

A special investigations officer said during a July 22 press conference that there were no immediate indications of foul play, but said they will continue to investigate Barron’s death as a homicide until foul play is ruled out.

A friend was quoted in a police report saying Barron he was “extremely intoxicated” when she last saw him. Police arrested 35 people on alcohol-related charges at the Cleveland concert, according to a statement released by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
