JBL’s Sound Across The Water

The new  amphitheatre in New York is supposed to be designed to keep its neighbors happy, but it appears to be a matter of which neighbors.
The Fray opens Live Nation's newest NYC location, JBL Live At Pier 97, July 9. The venue arrives three months after Roseland Ballroom closed and is located in an industrial area, with the stage facing away from the city. Upcoming acts include Lorde, Robyn, and Brantley Gilbert.

JBL Live, which opened in July along the Hudson River, is pointed away from Manhattan, so that the sound will go across the river.

However, New Jersey residents on the other side are apparently getting the brunt of it.

Two recent concerts generated 11 phone complaints, according to the Hudson Reporter.

One West New York resident said the noise is a “pounding kind of sound” and the cheering and hollering “sounds like college.”

“Some concerned New Jersey residents called and emailed after recent shows,” a Live Nation spokeswoman said. “After being notified of these concerns we immediately took action to decrease sound traveling across the Hudson River including working closely with a sound expert and to remedy the issues prior to the next series of events that commence in early August.”

Upcoming shows include Thievery CorporationBrantley Gilbert, and .
