Berlin Fest Moves To Kreuzberg

Berlin Festival is shifting the event from Tempelhof airport to the Kreuzberg area of the city, considered one of its “cultural hotspots.”

Stefan Lehmkuhl, who organises the event that he co-owns with the UK’s Festival Republic, dipped his toe in the Kreuzberg water in 2013. He added two days to the beginning of the festival and called them “First We Take Berlin,” giving mostly emerging acts a platform in the local clubs such as Astra, Postbahnhof, Magnet, Lido, and Fluxbau.

Although Berlin Fest has enjoyed a successful time at Tempelhof, moving the main shows to the Arena Park in the middle of Kreuzberg will have all the action happening in the same neighbourhood.

Kreuzberg all had Badeschiff, a floating public swimming pool with a beachfront, vintage rock ’n’ roll kitchen White Trash, the stunning open-air location Club der Visiona¨re, and Hoppetosse, generally considered to be one of Berlin’s coolest clubs.

This year’s Berlin Festival Sept. 5-7 has Sven Va¨thChase & StatusEditors, and Bombay Bicycle Club.
