Mack Newberry Dies
Mack Newberry, 89, publicist veteran died at his home in St. Augustine, Fla., Aug. 8.
Newberry was a protege of Lee Solters, working for 10 years at Solters’ firm, Solters Roskin Friedman. (Solters’ son, Larry, is the longtime publicist for the Eagles and Irving Azoff).
Newberry’s clients included Carol Burnett, Donny and Marie Osmand, and Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme.
He was also the force behind the marketing of the famous “battle of the sexes” game between tennis players Bobby Riggs and Billie Jean King.
