Denmark’s Smukfest sold out Aug. 6-10 with acts including Pet Shop Boys, Skrillex and 50 Cent.

In the case of Smukfest, the festival formerly known as Skanderborg, all 50,000 tickets went four months in advance. Denmark’s Smukkeste (or “Most Beautiful) Festival is based on a simple formula.

It focuses on a beautiful beech forest site where Danes and foreign visitors can spend a weekend listening to music, and maybe getting more than a little drunk. It was also the festival’s 35th edition.

The festival always has top international talent, which this year included Pet Shop Boys, Skrillex, Deadmau5, 50 Cent, Simple Minds, and The 1975, but it’s also known for providing a platform for the country’s best emerging talent.

Apart from being Denmark’s most beautiful festival, Smukfest can also lay claim to being its most Danish festival. The Danish acts flying getting into the Smukfest spirit Aug. 6-10 included Mø, Nephew, Nik & Jay, Mads Langer, and Tina Dickow (or Dico as she is called outside Denmark).
