Vermont Town OKs Festivals
A former horse and dog racing track in Pownal, Vt., received conceptual approval by the town’s select board to begin hosting music festivals next year.

The majority owner of the company that owns the former Green Mountain Race Track asked for the board’s blessing so the company can pursue permits from state and local agencies.
The site, which hosted Lollapalooza in 1996 when it was a touring entity, is now called Southern Vermont Energy Park. The site has solar panels but a proposal to develop a wood pellet burning electricity generation plant fell through in 2011.
