Digital Content Guide Launched
Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) chief executive Dan Rosen admitted, “Widespread copyright infringement on the Internet is an ongoing problem for the creative industries and we have been told that at times consumers have been confused about what is or isn’t a licensed service.”
The platform offers a free guide to licensed online entertainment services covering music, film and television, gaming, eBooks and sport. It is funded by ARIA, Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA), the Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society (AMCOS), the Australian Screen Association, the Copyright Agency Ltd, Foxtel, News Corp Australia and Village Roadshow.
Research conducted by UMR in December 2012 showed that the majority of Australians believe creators should be paid for their work. But other surveys also found Australians annoyed at paying more online than U.S. consumers.
