A Def Jam For The Ages
Promising performances by “past, present and future pioneers” of Def Jam’s roster, the Oct. 16 event will also welcome Ja Rule, Warren G., EPMD and Jeremih.
Encompassing all three decades of Def Jam’s impact on hip hop music and culture,
The night will take fans through the history of the label, encompassing all three decades of Def Jam’s impact on hip hop music and culture.
A success story that would make for a great movie, Def Jam’s beginnings go back to 1984 in Rick Rubin’s New York University dorm room when the future music impresario and his partner Russell Simmons birthed the idea that was to become one of most influential labels of the latter 20th century.
“I’m very excited to be a part of such a special announcement – Def Jam Recordings 30th Anniversary Concert at the iconic Barclays Center – which solidifies and continues the enduring mark the brand has made on pop culture,” Def Jam Recordings CEO Steve Bartels said. “As the birthplace of hip hop, there is no better place to celebrate such a cultural touchstone than in New York City itself.”
Def Jam will release two versions of a limited box set. The Rubin-curated Selections From The Roots Of Def Jam features music that inspired him to create the label. There is also a two-volume compilation titled Def Jam Recordings’ Greatest Hits which delivers what the title promises. A limited number of fans preordering the set via this link will receive a special code granting them access to a ticket presale for the show at Barclays. A presale will also be available for Brooklyn Nets All Access season ticket buyers.
The general onsale begins Aug. 22 at 10 a.m. EDT. Click here for more information.
