The Detroit Free Press says the city of Detroit will spend $2 million to fix structural damage to the Joe Louis Arena parking garage, while the Red Wings will spend about $1.25 million to repair 600 parking spaces.

The city and the Ilitch family-owned team are planning a new, 18,000-seat hockey arena and a 45-block entertainment complex north of downtown Detroit. It will cost an estimated $650 million and is scheduled to open in 2017.

The Red Wings have played at the riverfront Joe Louis Arena since 1979.
