Neil Young & Willie Nelson Headline Pipeline Protest

If constructed, the Keystone XL pipeline will carry crude oil from Canada to Gulf Coast refineries.  Supporters cite the need to reduce independence on Mideast oil as well as the jobs the pipeline will bring as reasons to greenlight the project.  Potential oil spills, environmental impacts and having to map out routes across private properties are just some of the reasons opponents are critical of the project.

One of those private properties that the proposed pipeline route may cross is Art Tanderup’s family farm located near Neligh, Neb.  A Neil Young fan from back in the days of vinyl, Tanderup will get to hear Young perform on his front porch during the Sept. 27 “Harvest The Hope” concert taking place on his land, according to Omaha World Herald / Omaha.com.

Proceeds for the show will go to Bold Nebraska, the Indigenous Environmental Network and the Cowboy and Indian Alliance.  While attendance limited to 10,000, fans may find it more difficult finding someplace to bed down than purchasing tickets to the show.  According to local media, Neligh has 24 motel rooms, a bed-and-breakfast and a couple of parks for camping.
