Trey Anastasio’s Orchestral Outing

Phish’s Trey Anastasio will take his new classical piece, “Petrichor,” to three West Coast cities where he will perform with local orchestras.  More after the jump.

Named for the scent that rises up from the ground after the first rain of the season, Petrichor is all about the process of rebirth and transformation set in motion by nature’s fury.

“I love the concept that beautiful gifts come often wrapped in not-so-beautiful packages,” Anastasio said.  “The idea of a storm coming through – it’s a little scary and it’s a little dark, but after it’s over it leaves this beautiful scent of renewal.  Sometimes a big storm is exactly what you need.”

The upcoming run isn’t the first time Anastasio has worked with orchestras.  A founding member of Phish, Anastasio’s adventures in the realm of classical music have taken him to Carnegie Hall where he performed with the New York Philharmonic and to the Kennedy Center where he appeared with the National Symphony Orchestra.

Here are the dates for Petrichor:

Sept. 9 – Portland, Ore., Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall (with Oregon Symphony)
Sept. 11 – Seattle, Wash., Benaroya Hall (with Seattle Symphony)
Sept. 26 – Los Angeles, Calif., Hollywood Bowl (with Los Angeles Philharmonic
