Nikki Finke Goes Dark

Hollywood industry blogger Nikki Finke seems to have dropped off the radar and appears to be feuding again with Penske Media Corporation, the company that bought her Deadline Hollywood website and then its rival, Variety.

Finke unveiled a new site, NikkiFinke.com, and in June resumed reporting on the entertainment biz in defiance of a noncompete agreement with Penske, according to the New York Times. But the site hasn’t been updated since Aug. 11, and the last story posted is the then-breaking news of Robin Williams’ death.

A person the NYT didn’t identify but said knowledge of the latest negotiations “suggested” that NikkiFinke.com may remain active, and that she stopped writing about the industry in order to reach a settlement with her old boss that would prevent her from writing online, but not in print media or book form.

The paper also says Finke has told friends that she may turn her reportorial skills to Los Angeles in general, media or politics.

And she could, presumably, bury the hatchet with Penske and return to Deadline. If Finke and Penske can’t hammer out an agreement, they may head to arbitration in November.
