Changes Considered For Musikfest

The mayor of Bethlehem, Pa., said he will soon meet with organizers of the annual festival Musikfest to consider changes because of several violent incidents.

Police said a dispute between two groups led to a double shooting a few blocks from the festival Aug. 5. An assault involving brass knuckles was also reported during the festival, along with another shooting.

Mayor Bob Donchez said officials were to meet with organizer ArtsQuest, and city council members are to meet next month.

Donchez was expected to suggest shortening festival hours on Main Street and installing brighter lights, after discussing the ideas with merchants.

Organizers claim the Aug. 1-10 event attracted more than 1 million people to Bethlehem. The event includes some musical performances along with comedy shows, dance performances and interactive displays.
