Antemasque Unmasks Worldwide Tour
The tour coincides with the October release of Antemasque’s self-titled debut album, which the band recorded in March with Flea on bass and former Mars Volta drummer Dave Elitch. An announcement from the group noted that Marfred Rodriquez-Lopez recently joined the lineup as a full-time bassist.
A specific release date hasn’t been revealed for the LP, but we can tell you that it’s being released through Antemasque’s own Nadie Sound label with distribution through Caroline.
Here’s a behind the scenes peek at the recording session for the album with a little video dubbed “Hangin In The Lurch – Creative Process.”
SF Weekly caught Antemasque’s San Francisco show Aug. 12.
The publication writes, “No one is precisely sure why the two dissolved The Mars Volta – there were murmurs of a rift between the two principals – but they’ve kissed, made up, and returned as Antemasque, a pared-down combo making their SF debut headlining Great American Music Hall last night. Needless to say, expectations were high. … Antemasque is its own beast. It’s a rare delight to see titans at the top of their game take the risk of (ahem) re-branding and presenting us with a new vision but it’s a delight when they retain what works (their utterly infectious energy) and re-imagine it into a novel context. Thumbs up, Antemasque.”
