Ultra Fest Bans Minors

The Ultra Music Festival in Miami will return next year with a few concessions after this year’s fest was marred when a security guard was seriously injured by trampling.

Organizers announced Aug. 29 that the next event will be 18-and-over. They will also hire more police, install stronger fencing and set up drug and mental health stations.

The three-day event in March came under fire after gatecrashers knocked down a fence and trampled the security guard in the process.

Mayor Tomas Regalado proposed kicking the event out of the city but city commissioners voted to let it stay. Regalado still believes downtown Miami is a bad place for the festival but he praised organizers for the new restrictions.

“I think that it’s the best decision they could have ever made,” he told the Miami Herald. “That was one of the main issues, the concern for minors. And I think it would be a much better festival now.” Ultra has attracted approximately 160,000 attendees.
