Doug Seegers Has Dates To Play
It’s not often that you find a new artist with decades of living under his belt. Thus is the case of Seegers, who, while homeless, regularly took refuge in The Little Pantry That Could., a food pantry located in the basement of the West Nashville United Methodist Church.
Then came Swedish country artist Jill Johnson who was shooting a documentary on street musicians. Once she heard his story and experienced his music, Johnson introduced the 62-year-old to Cash Cabin Studios where he recorded “Going Down To The River.” The song went on to become a big hit throughout Scandinavia.
Now Seegers is represented by booking agency APA Nashville and his debut album Going Down To The River arrives on Rounder Records Oct. 7. Produced by Will Kimbrough, the long player includes a duet with Emmylou Harris, instrumentals from Harris’ “Red Dirt Boys Band” and steel guitar work by Al Perkins. Buddy Miller guests on the album.
“I first heard about Doug during a lunch meeting with his producer last May,” said APA Nashville agent Cass Scripps. “After hearing the music a month later, I knew I was all in to work with this once in a lifetime amazing artist as he realizes his artistic, professional and personal potential. Everyone at APA is thrilled to have Doug and his team aboard and calling APA home.”
