Goodbye, Clear Channel

Clear Channel Communications, the former parent company of Live Nation, has decided to identify with the digital age and rebrand itself as iHeartMedia effective Sept. 16.

It’s evidence that the company, which once owned more than 800 terrestrial radio stations, now considers itself a multiplatform media company in just a few short years after launching the once-humble iHeartRadio app.

The iHeart brand is already attached to an awards show and multiple live music events, including a fourth IHeartRadio Music festival in Las Vegas Sept. 19-20 featuring Taylor SwiftColdplayOne Direction, and Iggy Azalea.

“To capture all these concepts and still call it the legacy really is a disservice to what we are and what people here have built, Clear Channel CEO Robert Pittman told the New York Times. “So we’ve taken our biggest national brand, our newest brand, our most digital brand, and made that the name of the company.”
