Hagar’s Cabo Bash Canceled

Sammy Hagar was forced to cancel what would have been his 24th annual Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, birthday bash the week of Oct. 7 and urges fans to stay home in the wake of Hurricane Odile that caused significant damage to his home and popular Cabo Wabo Cantina in the city.

Cabo San Lucas took a direct hit from Odile Sept. 14, leaving tens of thousands of tourists stranded in the immediate aftermath. The residents of the southern Baja California peninsula continue to struggle without power and drinking water.

“If it’s not safe enough for me and my family, it’s not safe enough for my extended family of fans,” Hagar told USA Today. He also took to his website, RedRocker.com, to explain further. “The military and government are in charge right now & once the town is a little more stable I will figure out what to do to help. I want to thank all of you fans for your ideas and willingness to give and the best thing to do is just wait for now. Many of my friends, partners and employees that are in Cabo are doing all they can at the Cantina to help people,” an update reads.

Cabo Wabo Cantina reportedly sustained some water damage, and Hagar reports the staff is safe and accounted for. His home, however, was not so fortunate.

“My home was right in the path of the storm,” he told USA Today, adding his swimming pool was silted up. Hagar also told the paper that some fans have posted “comments saying they were going to go anyway, but that’s very dangerous given the situation there.”

Ticket refund information is at Hagar’s website, though just because it won’t be in Cabo doesn’t mean Hagar isn’t going to celebrate.

“In the meantime, I’m working on a place that can handle a gathering on short notice for Redheads who can’t be in Cabo. One big bash somewhere – I hate sitting home on my birthday.”
