Phil Collins Has No Plans

That something in the air tonight is the gentle weeping of Phil Collins’ fans upon learning that the former Genesis singer/drummer does not plan on returning to the concert stage in the foreseeable future.

It turns out that Collins’ one-off appearance scheduled for later this year has sparked rumors that he was planning on returning to the touring world.  On Dec. 6 Collins will perform a few songs at the Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater during an event benefiting the Little Dreams Foundation, the charity he and his ex-wife Orianne created.

News of Collins’ participation first emerged in May, giving the rumor mill plenty of time, opportunity and motive to go full-tilt on comeback rumors.

Now Collins has issued a statement saying he has no plans to revisit the wonderful world of concerts, VIP packages, and meet-and-greets and clueless reviews written by scribes who were barely out of diapers when he was an unstoppable force in music.

“I will be performing three or four songs semi-acoustically, and maybe one more with my 13 year old son Nicolas on drums, but that’s all as I am not ready to return to the full concert stage at this time,” Collins said.

So there you have it, straight from the Duke’s mouth, so to speak.  Of course, he did say “at this time.”  Perhaps tomorrow will be another day … with new rumors.
