Uber Charges Steep Ride
A woman from suburban Denver who used the ridesharing app Uber says she was surprised to learn her bills to and from a concert totaled more than $500.
Uber is among new tech companies that use phone apps to connect riders to drivers who use their personal vehicles. Prices increase for rides during low supply and high demand times with what is called “surge pricing.”
KMGH-TV reports that surge pricing was in effect when Parker resident Tracy Reed used Uber Saturday night. Her 21-mile ride from Parker to the Pepsi Center for an Elton John concert cost $106. After the show, she was charged $443 for a ride to a Parker bar.
Uber credited back $110. An Uber spokesman says customers are asked to accept surge pricing before hailing a ride.
