An attorney for the venue recently pleaded no contest to 10 of 11 noise violation charges and the city and the Yachting Center agreed to a fine that hasn’t been made public.

The Yachting Center reportedly spent $180,000 to help reduce sound and buffer the tent that encloses the stage, but the improvements weren’t enough for the city.

Venue owner Newport Harbor Corporation told the local WPRI news in a statement that it is “reluctantly” saying goodbye to concerts and festivals on the property.

“The current local city noise ordinance is not designed for a concert business,” the company said. Newport Harbor will continue to host other private events such as boat shows on the property once it is sold, WPRI noted, but will no longer rent the Yachting Center itself.

It will also continue to invest into its “expanding restaurant and hotel operations, where we see excellent growth opportunities,” the company said.

The Yachting Center has hosted many summer shows and festivals over the years including the Newport Concert Series and the Newport Blues & BBQ Festival.
