Rock In Rio USA Announces Artists

Metallica, Linkin Park, Taylor Swift, No Doubt, Deftones and John Legend are among the acts booked for the first in Las Vegas in May.

Organizers didn’t just issue an announcement this afternoon.  Instead they took over New York City’s famed Times Square to unveil the first artists of what is expected to be a very long list of A-List acts for Rock In Rio’s U.S. debut, scheduled for May 8-9 and 15-16.

Along with revealing the first wave of talent, today’s event also featured performances by past Rock In Rio artists, including John Mayer and Sepultura.  No Doubt, one of the bands announced on the Rock In Rio USA lineup, was also in attendance.

For Rock In Rio USA, organizers have joined with MGM Resorts International, Cirque du Soleil and Ron Burkle of The Yucaipa Companies to create a custom-made, 33-acre open-air “City Of Rock”  on the Las Vegas Strip between Circus Circus and Sahara Avenue.

“From the first Rock In Rio festival in Brazil in 1985 to next year’s anniversary and Las Vegas launch, it’s been an amazing journey with Rock In Rio fans and the artists that have taken part in the festival,” Rock In Rio VP Roberta Medina said.  “We’re thrilled to see the construction of our first US City Of Rock and to announce the first artists who will perform in Las Vegas in May 2015.”
