Industry Noize: Don Law’s New Digs

The Union Square post office building, which closed early this year, was reportedly purchased for $2.75 million and though there is no formal plan in the works, the group is considering the possibility of locating an arts venue with a café or restaurant in the space.

Greg Karczewski, president of Union Square master developer partner US2, supported the sale.

“Don Law is an icon who has spent his career at the heart of the region’s music scene,” he said in a statement. “Somerville is a dynamic, creative community that cherishes arts and culture. We look forward to working with Don and his team moving forward and supporting their efforts to reach out to their new neighbors in Union Square.”

As part of the deal, Law’s group must preserve a New Deal era mural in the building. Public hearings are expected to take place once a plan is developed.
