The Post ran an Oct. 5 article headlined “Ex-Fugee Rapper Bailed On His Own 9/11 Benefit Concert.”

It claimed Pras didn’t show to a charity event in Hell’s Kitchen to benefit his foundation, Hope for Them, and that the foundation bounced a check to the venue, according to the Hollywood ReporterMichel claims the story was untrue and damaging.

The complaint says he “has never owned nor been an owner, director or officer of the Foundation” and that he never guaranteed a performance at the event.

Further, the event had nothing to do with 9/11. The lawsuit also claims that the foundation president told the Post prior to the article that Pras “is a good friend of the organization and supports our cause but is not a board member.” Pras claims he is involved in a $2.2 billion bid to purchase several properties but the article has caused him to field “countless” phone calls from “high-profile businesspeople with inquiries relating to the Article.”

The lawsuit claims the paper was served with a demand for retraction and apology. A representative for the Post declined to comment to HR.
