Margaritaville Biloxi Vacates

The Margaritaville Casino in Biloxi, Miss., continues to close. The casino, which opened in 2012 with a concert by Jimmy Buffett, ran out of steam in July, and announced it would close in mid-September.

Now it’s a matter of getting all the stuff out of it. Judge Katharine Samson of U.S. bankruptcy court has allowed former property owner MVB Holding until Oct. 27 to remove the casino’s equipment.

New property owner Clay Point LLC has the keys to the casino but cannot remove any property or interfere with the removal.

“Everything in there is leased, down to the salt and pepper shakers,” MVB attorney Robert Byrd said. The elevators, escalators, bar stools, kitchen equipment, buffet furniture, HVAC and surveillance equipment is leased, he said.

The number of employees is down to 60 and will probably be cut in half. Mississippi Gaming Commission regulations say the building cannot reopen as a casino unless it has a 300-room hotel, an upscale restaurant and an amenity that would make it unique and draw new people to the market.
