Markham, Ontario, may not be getting an arena to lure the NHL, but it’s still a point of contention for an upcoming ballot.

“The arena fiasco has essentally become the poster child for everything that is wrong with the municipal government in Markham,” a mayoral candidate told the Toronto Star.
“The public are angrly. I have never seen an angrier public than the one we have now.”
City councillors voted last year to put a $325 million arena project on hold after voters complained of the public/private financing plan, according to the paper. The arena was officially dropped this summer. The public wants to know how much the city spent on researching the project, the candidate told the paper.
